CRN
Global Task Force Scenario Project
We are
currently seeking qualified participants for our third scenario creation
"virtual workshop" event on
April 21 and 22.
The first two workshops were a great success (see below).
Now we need to keep up the momentum on examining the effects of different pathways and choices
for a
molecular manufacturing future, and we need to
involve new people who are interested in these issues.
If you've
come to this page, then you may be eligible to participate in our groundbreaking process
of remote, collaborative, real-time, multimedia scenario building. To
indicate your interest and receive more details, email
Mike
Treder.
Next Event:
Saturday
and Sunday, April 21 and 22, 2007
Start
time: 10:00 am PDT - 1:00 pm EDT - 5:00 pm GMT
Ending
time: 3:00 pm PDT - 6:00 pm EDT - 10:00 pm GMT
Each
session is a combination of moderated conference call, shared online
"whiteboard" (Google document), and text chat. There will be a 30-minute break
during the middle of each day.
Previous Events:
January 20-21, 2007 -- Members of the
CRN Global Task Force took part in a first-of-its-kind
activity. About a dozen people, representing four countries on three
continents, and with training in a variety of disciplines, came together for a
nanotechnology scenario creation project via virtual presence. They began the
process of developing a series of professional-quality models of a world in
which exponential general-purpose molecular manufacturing has become a
reality. Jamais Cascio, who did a terrific job of conducting the
opening workshop for us, also did a fine job of recounting the experience on his
Open the Future blog.
February 24-25, 2007 -- We had almost 20 people
involved and created two very different and very compelling scenarios about
the near-future development of molecular manufacturing within the context of
projected trends in science, technology, and global politics. One of the
stories is about negative drivers leading to a crash development program; the
other depicts positive drivers that provide a more gradual but still
accelerated process of bringing molecular manufacturing into society.
The process that began in January 2007 will be
repeated over several months until we have a broad and strong collection of
scenarios that are ready to be published.
Thanks to all who have participated so far!
